Mothers Day Card - Paper Cut Design

March 22, 2020

For Mother’s day this year I decided to create a paper cut card to send home. This simple design creates an effective card and keepsake.

I made some hand drawn sketches and use on-line inspiration to create the pattern. Once I had decided on the design I then used tracing paper to copy the image onto my paper. I decided to use thick paper as this made the cut design stronger and made the final card easier to stand up. Working my way around the design I then began to remove negative space using a scalpel, this then revealed the design in stages. When the design was fully cut out I then went over the paper with an eraser to remove any of the left over pencil marks.

Once I had finished the cutting process I then made the card by folding the paper in half and creating a crease using my paper folding tools. I also placed a grey piece of paper behind the design so it became more noticeable and would stand out.

Overall I was really pleased with the final outcome and got some wonderful comments from my Mum.

Happy Mother’s Day everyone!
